Ok, below is a really crappy picture, but some recent posts got me thinking.
The stock intake obviously works, but people would like something that makes more power while staying in a good A/F ratio.
Current intakes tend to run rich b/c they have no vanes.
If I understand correctly, the X-intake uses the sanded vanes to 'deflect' air and make the air have less resistance.... but something about deflecting there air above and below the MAF sensor is causing it to have oddball results and sometimes run rich on modified cars.
With the K-intake... it made a little bit of power. My guess would be that most of this power came from a better intake tube and generally the SRI design. However, some people may be concerned that the car could be running too lean because of the vanes disrupting the airflow too much.
So, my thought, would be to try and get the 'best of both worlds' by yes, sanding the vanes... but doing it differently. If the X-intake is running rich b/c the vanes are deflecting air away from the sensor, then we could simply sand the vanes on both sides to deflect air above and below, but also funnel more of the 'middle' ir towards the center of the MAF sensor.
Does that make sense to anyone else? I think it sort of goes along with what soxfan143 was saying previously about messing w/ the center hole of the MAF sensor.
Anyways, below is my picture w/ crappy sketches of the vanes from each intake. Let me know what you think or if its completely retarded b/c i dont understand something... let me know that too. Im by no means 'knowledgeable' in the subject... im just trying to learn and analyze different scenarios to help come up with a solution.
