I'm torn between doing that and encoding everything in FLAC (after I get some more disk space) so I never have to re-rip again.

I'm using grip as a front end with lame for encoding at 256kb/s. Its more than good enough for use in the car. The Civic's stereo doesn't seem to like 48kHz (I got a few things from DVD's), although the owner's manual claims it will.
