My only concern is that area easily gets blocked up by snow, so a secondary intake source will be necessary. I was going to use the stock intake pipe and fit a lightly weighted flap that would automatically shut off when the primary port started flowing air.

Regardless of the rake of the windshield, there still is a high pressure area at the base of the windshield. That is why manufacturers use that area for fresh air ventilation. My thought is that accessing that area would serve a double duty of providing fresh air to the car and to draw in colder, denser air to the filter housing.
