OK - spent the night sleeping on it and I think I have it figured out. The "extra" cable is the extension wires from the original bulb OEM connector back to the ballast (at least that's what I'm guess here without having opened up the wheel well as of yet). It was a bit confusing since it was molded in the rubber gasket/grommet until I went through all the parts in the kit and realized that there wasn't anything included to connect electrically from the original connection back to the ballast as originally outlined by OE.

I don't recall anything about 'giving advice' only what I was observing and intending to investigate further. As to knowing "NOTHING" about electrical - I've been dealing with electronics and electrical systems for more than 30 years and clearly recognize the need to investigate and trace before blindly whacking away at wires (early lesson when getting "bit" by 8,000 VDC and being tossed across the room). My comments in the post were to offer a possible explanation for the 'extra' wires and were always notated with "will check when I open it up" - apologies if anyone took this as 'advice'...and will post with more caution in the future so that other "noobies" don't get misguided info...
