The difference you are referring to is at 32 degrees... a 75W-90 as you are referrencing is not the required fluid.
The Viscosity of the fluid has nothing to do with wear, it all depends on film strength.
And what are you going to do on those cold Ohio mornings when you can't shift because you have the wrong fluid in the tranny using a 75W-90 ?
