Im trying to make this harness.... well i already made one... but it didnt work.

in your diagram, your RCA cables literally has a + and - wire. the ones im using have the one wire in the middle (+) and the outside copper (i think its copper) wires (-)... at least thats my understanding of how the RCAs are designed (maybe im mistaken)

I dont have my camera handy to illustrate with a picture, but i hope you know what im talking about.

so, i wired the RCA(-) wires to the (-) wire on the metra and the RCA(+) to the (+) on the metra... solder/tape, etc.

I did this for all 4 RCAs. I then installed the harness and wired the necessary things to the aftermarket unit (avic-d3) red/yellow/orange/etc

i then tapped the blue/white wire from the avic-d3 (labeled: remote system control) to the 'light blue' wire on the factory side harness.

When i powered on the unit, all worked fine, but i was able to get no sound via radio or CD.

*note: i did the d3 video bypass and moved the 'mute' on the d3 harness and grounded it along w/ the parking-brake wire. i dont think this could cause my issue

There was another blue wire on the D3 labeled (antenna control) or something of that nature. And there was another lightblue wire on the factory side (it has a silver stripe).

Is it possible that i tapped the wrong wire(s)? I only have myself available to do this, and i dont have a voltage meter. so i cant really test w/ the stock HU.

Basically, im trying to determine where my error is.

1. Is it my RCA cables, not having distinct + and - wires (like the illustration you gave)?
2. Did my soldering job not work?
3. Did i use the wrong 'blue' wire on the aftermarket HU side?
4. Did i tap into the wrong 'light blue' wire on the factory side harness?

any help is greatly appreciated as i am at a loss here.

thanks for everyones time

edit:

after reading some more posts, it seems that my error is most likely in the 'light blue' wire that i tapped into. i am going to re-try this tomorrow.
