Matt Reeves, the director of the movie, mentioned a couple of months ago that the monster had been in our oceans for 1000s of years. I dunno. I think it'd be cool if the "thing" was the monster/creature/alien/whatever. But I think it was the ChimpanzIII satellite or whatever that was mentioned on Tagruato's Web site.
