I agree and disagree with this statement.

First... the gti gets better gas mileage stock.
Second, it has way more torque so you barely have to rev the car past 2500 ever.

Don't wrx's stock get like 19c 24highway? So with mods you might get what like 27 at best if it adds any mpg? But i think it runs a little more rich with mods, so then you end up getting like 22highway at best? at least that is how it is for my friends with wrx's and stis.

in my 03 1.8t gti When I added a full turbo back exhaust my gas mileage went up like 3-5 mpg, as long as i didnt drive like an ass.

My 06 Jetta GLI 2.0t Got like 15mpg city (shifting at 3-4k) and 30-33mpg highway.. So on average It seemed like I was getting 24mpg.. I felt like the 2.0t was way worse on gas than the 1.8t...
