I have owned both and can swear on the holy bible that the WRX does not get better gas mileage than the Si. Can't remember exact figures but the avg mpg on the HWY is 32 or so for the Si and 28-29 for the WRX. And I drove both cars exactly the same way. Hell, when I could get to 30mpg in the WRX (and I did a few times on long road trips), it was almost occasion for a party.
I drive a lot for my job (not a pizza delivery driver). In mixed hwy and city mileage, the Si gets me up to 28mpg. The WRX was around 25mpg.
