Bah, humbug! Your Civic Si is a very good track car, even in stock form (except for the crappy OEM tires). You should track it at least once to see what it is capable of! You'll be a better and safer driver on the street with the skills you learn on the track.
I've been doing track events for two years now and I've seen a number of accidents on the track. Thankfully, I've not been involved in any.
As long as you drive within your limits and keep your ego in check, you'll be OK. All but one of the on-track accidents I've seen were one-car accidents where the driver did something to lose control of his/her car.
However, I was at Buttonwillow Raceway on Dec 16 and an Evo hit a S2000 that had spun and stalled on the track. These guys were in the advanced group, wether or not they truly were advanced drivers.
