I think that driver has abused his engine and then blamed it on the oil.
Mobil One has been around for many many moons and has been regarded in the industry as one of the best synthetics you can buy. The 5W30 Mobil One has one of the highest HTHS (High Temp High Shear) ratings of the oils in that viscosity.
The only 2 Oils that were higer was the Amsoil 0W30 and the Red Line 5W30.
All the others were below. Redline 5W30 was King with 3.8 HTHS, Amsoil 3.6 and Mobil One 3.4.

Mobil One is also used from the factory in all Porsches and Mercedes.
If they just knew what you knew they probably will switch to Quacker State
