I smoked mine back in April using the same method. I didn't use any clearcoat though. I wash my car at least 3x per week and They look a tad lighter than originally but still dark and the bulbs shine thru. I got the paint from the local hobby shop.
Brand name was Tamiya and the color was smoke....4.99/can
