Civic Front Speaker install PICS (56K Get an upgrade)

Hello all,

Thought that I would share some pics from my speaker install as it may help out others who wish to do the same.

Here's a comparison of my New 6.5" Component Hertz/Audison Speakers compared to the stock ones.

Once you have the door panel off and you have removed the one screw holding in the factory speaker just push in on the clips for the piece the speaker screwed into and it should come out fairly easily.

you should be left with this.

As you can see here my speakers are a little bigger than the hole in the door so I needed to use 1" plastic spacer rings

To mount the rings place some masking tape around the hole in the door and set your ring up against the door so that the the holes to mount the ring don't end up too close to the edge of over one of the holes in the door.

Stick a pen or pencil through the mounting holes in the ring to make a mark where you will need to drill then set the ring aside. Use a hammer and center punch to mark the center of the holes before drilling. If I remember right I used a 3/16" drill and #6 screws and nuts/washers. Crack out your drill and drill out the holes you marked and center punched.

You should now have something like this.

Mount up your ring to the door using the newly drilled holes. Make sure to use a flatwasher AND a lock washer so your nuts don't vibrate off.

The mounting holes for my speakers were in a slightly different location so I drilled some new mounting holes in the plastic rings.

Next wire in your speaker and mount it up.

Wiring:
Drivers door
+ = Light Green
- = Light Blue or Pink with Navi and Premium Audio
Passenger Door
+ = Grey
- = Brown

With the spacer ring in there you need to trim some plastic off the door panel.
Just trim the plastic down even with the ribbing as shown in the photo's below.

For the tweeters just carefully pop up the grills on the dash by the window. My tweeters fit nicely in the stock location and I mounted them in with electrical tape. Ghetto but it works.

For the tweeters I ran the wires to the back of the headunit and tapped into the front door speaker wires there. Wire colors are same as above except drivers (-) is always Pink here.

While I had the dash apart I also decided to mount up my GPS reciever so it would be nice and hidden. I mounted it in the same spot that Honda mounts the reciever for their Navi system.

Not quite as nice as the Navi but my Pocket PC running Mapopolis does decent job. It's mounted in an Arkon powered mount with a suction cup mount to the side triagular window. The power wires run down under the dash where installed a second power outlet near the fuse box area. I just tapped the power outlet's wires in with the existing one in the console under the head unit.

It makes for a nice clean look. I'll have to take a better pic someday cause this one is horrible.

For the rear deck speakers you can follow the same basic steps.

The only thing different I had to do for the rears since I installed Phoenix Gold Coaxial which stuck out a bit higher, I needed to sand down the spacer rings to 3/4" to clear the grill.

Wiring for the rears is
Drivers side
+ = Grey
- = Brown
Passenger Side
+ = Blue or Yellow if you have Navi or the premium audio
- = Orange

Hopefully these pics will help somebody out with their install.
