Ok, I have never ground third. However, third is not as smooth as the rest of the gears (kinda notchy). Make sure your pushing in the clutch all the way (I find this to be a tad difficult in the si as the pedals are very close together and the firewall is sort of shaped around the clutch). Also, I had a buddy tell me once (in another car) to "wind out the clutch"...To do this you basiacally just redline through a few gears (or thats how I understand it)....It seems to always make shifting easier in any car...
