Don't believe everything you read. I purchased a 2002 VW Passat based on Consumer Report's ratings. Took it in early for every service. If anything broke, I immediately had it fixed. 500 miles out of warranty, and it needs over $3000 worth of work - and of course, VW won't do a thing about it. Checked Consumer Reports again when looking to buy the SI, so thought I would look at the Passat again - funny how they change their ratings. In 2002, the Passat was a best buy, in 2006, when I looked again, they had changed their ratings to show that it was far from a best buy.
Moral - I am a dumbass for believing Consumer Reports. Don't be like me...
