The base bushings remove flex from a different location than the cable bushings. The cable bushings remove the flex from the cables themselves wheras the base bushings remove flex from the shift assembly itself thus providing a more precise shift feel overall.
Replacing either set of bushings independently improves the shift feel, replacing both
cable and base bushings will provide you with the most complete shift upgrade since all the components that can flex have been replaced. The base bushings are simple to install, but it is recommended that you remove the center console unless you have small hands like me
