Read the back of the AHFC bill with the payment coupon on it
"Principal Payment (Loans Only) Payemts in excess of the amount due will reduce principal and show as a credit to your next month's payment. Continuing to make payments or making payments in excess of the amount due will have the effect of reducing your final payment or shortening the term of your loan."
