I've upgraded from a 92 accord to a 07 si last spring. This august my friend / salesman had a rsx type-s on the lot and i asked him if i could take it for a spin. (the salesman owns a 99 type-r with all the jdm goodies you could want. Mugen wing, Mugen intake, the the super expensive Mugen racing bucket etc...)
After about driving it for and hour and visiting my favorite spots (i did kinda beat on it
) I came to the conclusion that there really no comparison between the two cars. The power plants are nearly identical and the gearing is the same if I remember the gearing charts. But overall from a raw performance perspective (road course not straight line) the si is easier the better car.
The seats have better bolstering and they are not as slippy as the leather type-s seats. Granted the si seats may not work for you if you are not skinny / athletic build.
The type-s really felt like a regular rsx with a larger engine, the suspension didn't seem anywhere tight enough and gave me a uneven feeling when pushing it through the corners. Even though it was nice to get back to standard power steering the car still felt "loose" when driving it around town.
I really was just disappointed and was kinda shocked, everything i've read over the last 5 years was that the type-s was an amazing car. But really its age shows when compared to the new si. Its not to say that the type-s wasn't an amazing car in '01, it was. Its just not close to the new si. Granted with all the things you can do to the type-s you should be able to make it the better car easily, but stock for stock there isn't a comparison, everything the type-s does the si does better (from raw performance on auto-x / road courses, I'm not a drag guy. N/A inline 4's are not suppose to go fast in a straight line. The type-s / si are "quick" cars.)
