yup yup, its just an option either way. i didnt want to risk losing screws &/or screwdrivers futzing with the grille trying to undo it. so breaking it was the best medium i could find. that & i did NOT for the life of me have ANY torx tools required for 2 of the removal requirements to the grille for that matter. lol. at least i have ONE souvenior emblem from my car. yayy!

ACTUALLY, the quick and dirty way you describe would have led me to much less heartache and pain.
That's a plastic clip from the bottom of the grille where it snaps to the bumper. It's laying in the sheild under the radiator. It was the only one I recovered. I bought 3 more and snapped them in later.
After I had the grille unscrewed, I gave a good yank. POP! Hey, what was that?
Bye bye plastic clips.
