Sorry for the rant, but being a long time VW owner and recent Honda convert I'm noticing all kinds of little things that should have been done differently on the Si.
actually, the stock shift knob is a damn nice addition to the car. If you are familiar at all with honda, all of their top model performance cars come with a metal shifter. Titanium for some Type-R's, or aluminum with red letters, the S2000 changed from Ti to Aluminum and leather and to my suprise they actually included the knob with the Si (it's over a $140 dollar knob).

The problem is now, that the new Type-R's come with even newer and redesigned knobs that everyone wants, so the nice shift knobs that came with the Si are sort of outdated and boring now. There are lots of junky knobs out there, and if you arent getting a weighted shift knob, you're pretty much wasting your money since the weight helps ease shifts in a cable driven car. Notice how heavy the stock knob is?

My recommendation for different shift knobs would be,
-CircuitHero (heavy and feels great in the palm)
-J's Racing Titanium, same as CH, except comes in a sick Ti blue color
-ARC (again same as above)
-FD2 knob, it's the new type-r knob, enough said.

I'm going to give a round leather knob a shot...just because it's weighted and i'm getting a little sick of my knob being on fire after leaving the car outside on a hot day.

and...if it is ever available... the Mugen RR knob.

In the end...our Si is pretty impressive with what you get from the factory for the price. You can get a strutking dead pedal to complete the pedals pretty cheap (and is what i did), you can get the FD2 shift boot cheap, other than that...the interior is pretty nice. It's too bad the US has to get the Type-R's little brother... why they will never bring another R stateside is beyond me, i'd put my deposit down now.
