I deal with these "shitty" extended warranties all day long as a service advisor and I believe they are worth the money. In certain situations they are worth more to some people. Now im not giving praise to them cause I work there....I could care less, Im not on commision so if the work in the shop is customer pay or warranty its the same to me. Looking at it from a comsumer side though, I can't tell you how many times I've seen people with say 132k on their car and then bam their A/C compressor and clutch go at once...on a very hot day. Almost $1500 for the customer or $25 with the warranty....the extended warranty is hit and miss that is why Honda will return your full value of the extended warranty if you never used it. But if you have a major component go on you, there is nothing like breathing easy knowing you dont have to dish out big bucks for things like A/C components which are always pricey. On a further note the Honda Plus Comprehensive covers all the portions of the repair in that deductible, so if you need a compressor it also pays all the labour for diagnosing it as well as replacing it as well as all the PAG oil and freeon needed to recharge your system afterwords.
Long and short of it is.....i've seen these warranties save huge headaches for people. I personally roll the price into my monthly payments and you know what its not that bad....if I dont use it, get a cheque back from Honda after the warranty period is up. You can laugh leaving the dealership saying "Those idiots, I saved all that money" but when you get into your 5th year and something goes like a compressor, or a rear main seal....you will enjoy it for the convenience even if that one repair dindt total equal up to it.
Once again, always just my 0.02, im sure i'll get plenty of people disagreeing.
