I haven't heard of a metalized film messing up an aftermarket GPS, but I'm sure it will happen someday.

The problem comes when there's an embedded antenna in the glass (like for your radio). So you can lose AM radio reception. If you don't listen to AM....who cares? However, sometimes you lose FM while the defroster is on.

Plus, to get great heat rejection you need ceramic or metal. Some people don't like the way full metal films look. Personally, I like the bling.

Yes, metalized films can reduce cell phone reception. It's not by much, but it can. I show customers this by taking a piece of tint and wrapping it around my cell phone and they can see it lose a bar. Then I do the same with a ceramic or high quality dyed and it won't.
