I also find it very hard to believe that an ss/sc outhandled a mazda mx5. I'm usually the one that sticks up for ss/sc's and ion redlines, but I won't say something like that for a good reason.. I highly doubt it's true. If it was published, they were paid to publish it. The mx5 is a wonderfully handling car and is known to be one of the best "point and shoot" cars on the market. |
I believe the article people are referencing is Car and Driver's lightning lap...they basically took a bunch of cars and time'd them going around VIR.

They praised the handling, but the car's straight line performance translated into the slowest lap time in its bracket. Running the cars around an actual race track with both straights and turns is IMO a very good way to gauge performance and I wish they'd do these types of comparo's more often.
If you havn't already you should give it a read...interesting article, would make me cry if I owned a mustang tho.
