A CAI wont kill your motor unless you are just straight not thinking in bad conditions. You see a big puddle? Drive around it. Cant drive around it? Put your clutch in, and coast through the puddle. Cant coast through because there is a stop sign or something on the other end? Find a different route.
I have been driving cars with CAI since I was 16, all of them slammed to the ground. Seriously, 2.5-3inches off the ground with my lowest car. I have driven those cars through serious storms, and floods. I have never had an issue. You just have to pay attention. Of course you are going to have issues if you think you can drive your car like normal. Drive through a big puddle and you will hydrolock if the water is high enough.
Remember, you have to have the CAI filter partially submerged in a puddle for you to hydrolock. Realistically lookat your car, and where the filter is. Its not that close to the ground. What are you doing driving through puddles that deep in the first place?
About your warentee? Like said, they cant void it unless they can prove that it was the aftermarket part that caused the problem...its the law. If you do something stupid, before going to the dealership, put the stock parts back on. Its not that hard. If you had someone put it on, do yourself a favor...go to Sears, get some craftsman tools (all you will need is a flathead, philips, and a 10mm socket wrench) and learn to do things yourself. Its so easy to work on these cars its almost silly. If you are going to go this route, be sure to take aftermarket parts off before going to the dealership even for a simple oil change. They will put down in their computers that you have mods done to your car even for something as simple as an oil change.
My 2001 civic had a K20A2 swapped in and I still had my warentee. Just not for anything on the motor.
