Google "Magnuson-Moss Act" and you'll have enough to read for the rest of the day. This act was put into place to protect the aftermarket parts industry and does put the burden on the manufacturer/dealer to prove a part is responsible for a defect. Like everyone said, it really does depend on the dealer you use and the relationship you have with them. There are laws that protect us, but it doesn't prevent you from being hassled anyway, which is why I tend to lean away from mods that can cause problems. I have neither the time or the patience to battle it out w/ dealers over this kind of thing.
