Well in math and physics classes they start with a general and simple equations and then add more detail to the equation as the students learn more. The general and simple equations are ususally for a lab situations. Lab situations can be applied to the real world and give you an idea of what is going on or going to happen but they will never be able to explain all the things that happen in the real world. I think you are over thinking the question. You know about a lot of "real world" equations, so you have too much experirnce to think at such a simple level.
