Rep Guide:

Rep Guide

The reputation system is intended to recognize a member when they have posted content that contributes to the community in a positive manner. This can be (but is not limited to) Do It Yourself articles, photographs, assistance with technical information or otherwise, etc... You gain reputation as other are worth 6000 and reset your counter... basically add 6000 points for each of these over the user's rep to calculate their score

Dark Green Boxes Are Worth 150
Light Green Boxes Are Worth 250
Golden Boxes Are Worth 800

You start out with 10 points of rep, but you cannot give rep till you hit 50 posts (or an additional 10 points of rep so = 20 points of rep).

Your reputation score alters how many points you give to a member when you give reputation to them. Once you meet the minimum post count, you will give 1 point of reputation. Here are a few things that add to how many points you give:

Register Date Factor
For every 180 number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

Post Count Factor
For every 500 number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

Reputation Point Factor
For every 100 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

There are a couple of restrictions on what must happen before your reputation points given begin to count for other members.

Minimum Post Count
A user must have 50 posts before his reputation hits count on others.

Minimum Reputation Count
A user must have 10 pts of rep before his reputation hits count on others.

Example:

This user has 1500 posts, has been registered for 180 days, and has 4 bars of reputation:

+1 point (since they have passed the minimum posts to give rep)
+1 rep for 180 days registered (1 point for each 180 days)
+3 rep for the post count (1 point for each 500 posts)
+4 rep for their personal reputation total (400+ points accumulated)
=9 rep given each time.

When reputation is given to another member, the amount of points given is determined at the time that the reputation is given. If the member's reputation altering ability changes in the future, it does not increase the amount of points given in the past to other members.

In the past, this system has been abused by members that openly request that other members provide them with reputation in exchange for returned reputation, regardless of the content of the post made. (Reputation abuse....) This results in an inaccurate system where a member's score may be solely determined by them begging for reputation and this is not the intended function. As such, 8thcivic.com stipulates that requesting reputation points from another member, either publicly or privately, is against the forum rules. Any posts requesting reputation will be edited/removed and the member will be warned by staff. Repeat violations of this will result in further action.

Negative reputation adversely affects a member's score and should be used sparingly, if at all. If you have a problem with the way a member has conducted themselves on the forum, please use the report bad post icon to flag the issue to the site administrators/moderators so we can try to resolve the issue as amicably as possible. Please keep in mind that the staff has full access to view/edit all reputation comments left for others and that abuse will not be tolerated.

You can only give out rep 10 times a day, and 45 times before you can hit the same person again.

To check your rep, click on the User CP, it's found right at the bottom of the page, under "Latest reputation received". If you don't see any listings, it's because you haven't received anything. Start posting some good stuff!!

Only the 10 most recent reps given to you are displayed.

= positive rep
= negative rep
= member has/had not yet met minimum post count and as such, the rep didn't add to your score
= member's reputation has been disabled (you probably won't see this one)

We have different messages that appear when doing a mouseover on a user's reputation bars. These change depending how many points you have.

Any questions/comments, PM me and I'll update the thread.

Thanks to 2fast4u2, atruhondagrl, Webby, Izzy, Tim and everyone that contributed in the original rep thread!
