Typically the auto manufacturers only run their manufacturing scheduling once a month. So all orders are submitted by the dealers and when the scheduling date comes around, the computer crunches through the orders and then updates the dealers. It is quite normal to have to wait a while for a build date.
Additionally, if your dealer has already gone through his/her allocation of a specific vehicle, their order can be rejected. They can then try to swap with another dealer or resubmit the order for the next scheduling run-through.
