A lot of them are two peice rotors, with an aluminum center and of course iron/steel rotor. True... the weight is farther out now that the rotor is larger in diameter. Weight is something everyone considers especially when its reciprocating mass. Lighter calipers are only unsprung weight; the weight of the calipers matter a lot less than the weight of the rotors.

A heavy caliper wont make your car feel slower in the straight away, but heavier larger rotors will.
