Horn swap/replacement/installation

There is a DIY here: DIY: Horn/Bumper Removal
CollegeHillsHonda.com Fog Light Installation (warning PDF link)

2006 Civic EX Sedan

I tried following the DIY and my inexperience with cars has shown. An install that should have been thirty minutes took me three hours. I even referenced the CollegeHillsHonda instructions for fog light install. Reference all you can!

All-in-all I broke a couple of clips and lost one or two more.

I've provided a few pictures below. I'm trying to figure out something to say that might help other n00bs like me. I'll point out my difficulties in the pics. Words with capital letters are from the CollegeHills pdf.

The crome grille is attached to the bumper (green arrow). When you remove the "Front Bulkhead Cover" (not shown) be sure to properly detach it from the Right and Left Fender Trim (red arrows). This is were I broke a clip and lost a clip. There is nothing really holding the bumper in place directly under the headlights. So when you remove it and reinstall it don't be afraid , just give it a good pull or push.

Now we have the bumper off. Our focus for the horn will be the orange box. The yellow box is were my new Injen CAI will be located once it arrives.

Here is the horn removed. Simple enough, it was screwed in pretty tight. I ended up reusing the bracket and the nut (both in yellow).

The red arrow points to where the bracket was attached via a hex screw (seen in the pic above). The green box outlines the single-wire connecting harness. I eventually decided to cut off the harness and used a crimping connector to tie into the new horn.

The Blazer Horn, Dual Tone, from AutoZone. Retail ~$30. Nothing fancy here.

Unboxed. We have the high & low horn. When in the package I thought they were connected. This lead to a little problem later, how would I fix them to one mounting hole on the car? The brackets are too short to attach the horns together, from one lug to the other. Also, since this is a single-wire horn relay, you use the black wires to attach one lead to the lug (leads not shown). I don't know what the black relay box is for. The instructions are poor. I say use less room for other languages and explain what I'm looking at. I need all the help I can get.

We are looking at the reused screw and bracket (green arrows), two screws with nuts I found in my toolbox (yellow arrows), and the single-wire harness (orange arrow). I put the old bracket right were it used to be and then used the hole (top yellow arrow) were the old horn was attached to attach my brackets. Luckily there were four brackets. But, there were only two nuts and washers that came with them. So, both horns are only attached at one spot, they essential hang freely. I'm a little worried about possible rattling, but I'll don't mind re-doing this if necessary.

After the splice. Taped up.

And there you have it. I put everything back together, and with my little child sleeping miserably because he's sick, I gave the horn a quick tap. It was almost 2 am and in a garage. It was loud, but nothing over powering. I'll take some short footage tomorrow on the road for Real Life testing. Don't get in my way!!
