I played with this. I was looking into it for higher mpg. Warm air intake. No secret warmer intake air temps over all help with mpg. IE winter mpg versus summer mpg. So in pulling the hose off like in the picture on ave. it increased my intake air temp at highway speeds by 20 to 30 degrees F. With a hose placed near the CAT temps went up another 20 to 30 degrees F.
So in short. On my test loop of 26 miles @ 95 F. driving 60 mpg temps where as follows.
Stock with hose hooked up, 101F
Hose un hooked and placed like in the pic, 126F
Hose placed on the air box and set near the CAT, 150+F
I saw a stable 1 mpg increase in FE. I will revist this come winter
