HP = faster on a track, faster on paper, faster on the dyno.

torque = faster in your mind, faster on the butt dyno.

The only thing torque is useful for, is burn outs, towing a boat, and it allows you to have to shift less, because with more torque, your power band is flatter. High horsepower motors (like racing engines) tend to feature high peak horsepower instead of torque. The end result is that you need to be in the right gear at the right time, to get the performance out of your engine. This is why hondas have no power, except above 6k RPMs. Basically more torque = better daily driver. More HP = better track car.

more torque = easier to drive fast
no torque = harder to drive slow
