I don't think the bumpstop has anything to do with that. In fact, the only way I think that will happen is if your strut/damper gets compressed so much that it's already sitting on the bump stop. If that happens, that's totally NOT good, since you have no suspension travel at all. Expect very harsh ride and bottoming out and breakage in that case.
