Here are a couple of possibilities:
(1) When you put torque into the transmission in reverse, the gears generate a load in one direction. This is often the opposite direction of the loads in drive. Since the countershaft is supported by a single deep groove ball bearing, you would get a metallic noise when you make the load direction change.
(2) There is a shift sleeve that toggles between Reverse and 5th. Engaging and disengaging this has the potential to make a clanking noise.
It is slightly annoying and absolutely harmless.
I've spent 10 years designing parts for automatic transmissions. The best way I could characterize Honda's design practice is "quirky".

My noise only happens when releasing the brake pedal after reverse to drive or drive to reverse. It sounds very much like a brake/caliper/rotor issue, not a tranny issue. The tranny noise you refer to I have heard in many cars and is not as loud as my CRACK in the front end.
It's a very odd thing that only a few people have reported or just don't care.
The other guy I mention earlier took his car back to the dealer 5 times until they called down a regional tech who retorqued the whole front end. They loosened all the components, retightened to spec and voila front end CRACK went away. My dealership refuses to do this since they think there is no problem. Such is life.
