Yeah, what you want is the highest AVERAGE horsepower over the RPM's in which you are accelerating. So, sometimes it's better to go past peak power so that you don't land at an rpm of really low power after the upshift. Of course, there are many other variables to consider, but it's worth trying, for sure, especially because the slope of the hp curve is so steep in the rpms leading up to the peak power, which could mean very little horsepower after the upshift if you shift too early.
