Roll down the windows. You will be doing quite a bit of work and the last thing you want to do is accidentally shut a locked door with your keys sitting on the front seat.

On the front door, locate the door release handle. Inside the cup you will notice a small plate. Using the small flat-head screwdriver, remove the plate by inserting the screwdriver head behind the lip (indicated in red) and moving the butt of the screwdriver toward the rear of the vehicle. The plate should easily pop out.

Once the plate has been removed, you should see a screw and a black plastic grommet. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw. Using the tip of the small flat-head screwdriver, press on the black circle in the center of the grommet. It should shift inwards about a centimeter.

Next, you need to remove the outer moulding. Using the small flat-head screwdriver, pry apart the moulding from the handle. I have identified the notch that Honda has on the moulding (red circle) that should make it easier to pry. These mouldings are pretty tightly installed so you may need to pry it out, stick your finger into the gap and then move the screwdriver along the edge until the moulding pops loose. I recommend, however, only working along the bottom edge since the hinge point is at the top and if you do accidentally scratch the moulding, it won't be visible.

At the top of the handle where the moulding had been, you will see that the moulding is attached by a blue strap. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw attaching the strap to the door.

Just below the handle and above the pocket there are two screws. Using the Phillips screwdriver remove these screws.

Remove the mirror wire cover by inserting the small flat-head screwdriver behind the plastic piece on the side toward the front of the vehicle and pry off.

The door is now ready to be removed. I differ from several others in my methodology so I let you know of that now. I for one do not use panel poppers when working with the car door. For some cars, a panel popper is a necessity but with the Honda Civic, you are able to remove the door without the need of the panel popper. In order to remove the panel from the door, locate the lip at the base of the door. Insert your fingers under this lip and pull towards your body. You are working against about 10 fasteners so it may take a good yank. This is ok. You also may want to insert a screwdriver underneath the panel where you were placing your finger and use it as a lever. Once you have separated the panel from the door about 3 inches, look under the door and slowly work out each fastener until each has been undone. The door will not have been removed from the frame yet because the top of the panel will still be attached to the door, so don't try to force it completely off.

Once the fasteners have been disconnected from the frame, you need to hold the door away from the frame, as pictured below, and then lift up on the door. The connection at the mirror should easily slide off.

Once you have disconnected the panel from the frame, you need to unplug the electrical components. After locating the plug pictured below, find the clip and press in on it while pulling the plug apart.

The final step before the panel is completely removed from the door is to disconnect the door latch from the panel. To disconnect the latch from the door, apply pressure on the inside of the door panel, forcing the latch outward. I just give it a good whack. It should dislodge fairly easily and then you need to rotate it 90 degrees and push it through the hole. The panel now may be put to the side. If you are going to set it on the ground (I recommend taking it inside), be sure and set it down with the outside facing upward. You don't want to scratch your door panel!

The speaker is held in place by a single screw at the top of the speaker housing. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw. Then pull the speaker toward you from the top. The speaker is held to the door at the base by plastic prongs, so the speaker should swivel downward.

To disconnect the speaker, locate the clips on the speaker connectors and depress while pulling on the speaker wire.

The tweeters (if so equipped) are located in the front corners of the dash, at the junction between the window and dash. To remove the tweeters, insert the small screwdriver into the seam toward the rear of the tweeter plate, nearest the outside of the vehicle and pry upward. Continue prying along the seam until the entire tweeter has popped out.

Once the tweeter plate has been dislodged from the dash, pull the tweeter plate toward you. The wire should allow you to pull the tweeter about 4 inches back. Rotate the tweeter until you can locate the clip and press on it while pulling the tweeter plate towards you.

Measure how much wire you will need to reach between the tweeter and the speaker. I used 6 ft. of wire because its easier to cut off the excess wire once everything has been run than it is to add it.

Once you have cut your wire, attach one end to a coat hanger that has been straightened out. I attach it using electrical tape and intentionally leave a bit extra so that I can make a tab to pull on once the speaker wire has been run.

Under the dash, behind the hood release lever, there is an open area where wires can be seen. Take the wire/hanger tool and thread the wire up through this area, aiming roughly towards the tweeter hole. Fortunately this is a fairly straight shot, so you should be able to feed the wire/hanger through the hole and see it poking through the other side.

Once you have reached the tweeter hole, grab a hold of the tape-tab that you have created and then quickly pull down on the hangar. This should separate the hangar from the wire. Pull the wire up through the hold so that you have enough to work with when attaching the tweeter.

To get wire from the cab to the door, I prefer to go through the hold created for the electrical system, but not through the tubing itself. In order to do this, you must pry the tubing away from the body. To do this, use the standard flat-head screwdriver to pull the rubber casing away from the body.

Once you have disconnected the tubing from the body, you need to do the same at the junction at the door. Again using the flat-head screwdriver, pry the rubber casing away from the door.

In order to run the wire through the casing hole, simply stuff the wire through the newly created hold from the cab side through. The hold can be accessed from behind the trunk release, in the same area where you pushed the wire up to the tweeter hole.

Once you have run the wire through the hole, pull the wire through and then thread it through the hold in the door. Be sure to put the wire behind the hinge. Once the wire has been fully threaded, pull through enough to give you room to make the necessary connections and reattach the rubber tubing to the door and body frame by pressing firmly on the edges until it reseeds.

1. Prepare the wire by attaching it to the hangar as done in Step 2 for the driver side.

On the passenger side, you must remove the base and side moulding to access the space needed to reach the tweeter hole. To remove the base moulding, insert the screwdriver at the base of the moulding as indicated in the picture and pry away from the moulding. This should release the first fastener. Then to the same to the top of the moulding. There are eight fasteners in all so just continue to work your way down the moulding until the mouding can be removed.

Once the base moulding has been removed, the side moulding can be removed. This piece is held in place by two fasteners, The first can be removed by placing the screwdriver at the indicated point and prying away from the moulding. Once this one has been released, slide you hand behind the panel and press firmly and forcefully against the moulding to release the second fastener.

The last step before running the wire is to lower the glove compartment. Remove all the contents from the glove compartment. Once it has been cleared, pull inward on the back of the two side walls, Once the rubber stoppers will pass the outer wall, pull down on the glove compartment and allow it to hand freely upside-down.

Starting from the hole created from the hole created by removing the side panel, thread the wire/hanger up to the tweeter hole. Using the hold created by removing the glove compartment, guide the wire the rest of the way (its difficult to do without guiding it through this hole).

Once the wire has been brought through the tweeter hole, repeat steps 5-8 from the drivers side.
